As the UAE is slowly easing restrictions across the country and we gradually return to our normal routine, our fight against COVID is still far from over. During this quarantine period, we have an ample amount of time to get our hands into things that spark our interest and even open to new horizons. It is beneficial for us to spend our time wisely and do work productively. By being proactive you become more positive albeit the current situation at the same time hone new skills. This can be done through learning and increasing our knowledge at home.

Without further ado, here are practical tips to convert our time at home to learning and broadening our knowledge:

Books

Never found the time to read? This is probably the time to pick up that book you never finished or haven’t even read yet. The best way of gaining knowledge is through books. Whether your interest lies in a specific subject matter like engineering or food recipes, self-help books or novels, magazines or any type of publication will do you good. Have your hardbound or paperback books delivered to you via online marketplaces such as Noon or Amazon. It is also a good time to swap your kindle or e-books to an actual tangible book to reignite that inner bookworm.

Online Courses

It is time to get that certification you’ve been eyeing for! Many have found the quarantine period to be the perfect time to get back to studying or schooling. This feat has now been made possible, thanks to online classes and e-learning courses. Get online certifications to be a yoga instructor or a nutritionist, brush-up on your maths, or simply take up a short course to digital marketing. LinkedIn Learning, for instance, provides various online training courses for free!

Learning Websites

Some informative YouTube Channels give you an insight into topics you might be interested in. However, you can also dive deeper and complete online courses that get you certified. Some of the top websites you can learn new skills are from online training and educational platforms such as Udemy and Coursera. Search for thousands of new skills and courses brought to you by subject-matter professionals and experts. Register on the website and take the course at your own pace. It’s like having your personal masterclass at home.

Podcasts

Another way of bringing in positive vibes in your daily routine is by listening to podcasts. There are thousands of podcasts streamed over the internet. And if you have an iPhone, you can use the Apple podcasts app to listen to podcasts. Likewise, if you have an Android phone, you can use the Google podcast app. Listen to compelling stories from TED Talks with daily thought-provoking ideas and subjects to touch upon. Or build that “Monk Mentality” with the “On Purpose” podcast by Jay Shetty. All podcasts are free, and you can download your favourite series on your personal device for easy listening.
